Job advertisement, laboratory technician

The Department of Anthropology at University of Vienna invites applications for a laboratory technician for dental cephalometry of historic populations. The position is dedicated to support data acquisition within a funded research project (FA547014) with the goal to 1) compare traditional 2D approaches for the measurement of skulls with modern 3D approaches used in Virtual Anthropology, and 2) to study the frequency and magnitude of dental malocclusions in historic and recent populations. Our department is well-known for this kind of research and tool development and offers one of Europe’s most comprehensive curricula in Geometric Morphometrics and Virtual Anthropology.

The successful candidate will be well-versed in dentistry and quantitative studies of teeth. Background should include formal professional training in: dentistry, anatomy of the skull and teeth, classic morphometric methods in dentistry cephalometry), handling of digital data (x-rays, CBCT).

The lab assistant will work on the following tasks:

  • Data acquisition from lateral and a/p radiographs
  • Data acquisition from ConeBeam Computed Tomography
  • Segmentation of anatomical regions (e.g., teeth, sinuses)
  • Administration of data bases

Funding for this post will be  available for 12 months, scheduled  to begin February 1st 2012. Applications should include cover letter, curriculum vitae, photograph, short statement of interests.
