Dr. Hermann PROSSINGER is a theoretical physicist, born in Salzburg / Austria. He grew up in Toronto / Ontario and Sept-Iles / Quebec, Canada. He then returned to Salzburg, where he finished his secondary schooling in 1968. In the same year, he enrolled at the University of Vienna, studying physics, mathematics, astronomy and philosophy. He finished his Ph.D. in 1976 (dissertation topic: "Isothermal Gas spheres in General Relativity Theory").

He has been active in many research projects:
(1) mathematical modeling of neutron diffusion in breeder reactors (Argonne National Laboratories, USA);
(2) developing breeder cells for pest control wasps and airborne emission systems for them in Nigeria (WHO, Rome);
(3) epistemology and history of medieval astronomy in central and northern Italy in the 13th-14th Century (Warburg Institute, London, England and Kunsthistorisches Institut, Florence, Italy);
(4) mathematical models and statistical analyses of prehistoric (Bronze Age and Iron Age) and historic (Medieval) populations (Museum of Natural History, Vienna, Austria).

Currently, he is working on various topics relating to the interplay of mathematical models, statistics and biology at the Institute for Anthropology, University of Vienna:
(1) time series analysis of anthropological and primatological phenomena;
(2) Geometric Morphometrics;
(3) algorithmic removal of embedding matrices using CT-scans of fossils;
(4) statistical analysis of asymmetries in crania

He is a member of the Österreichische Physikalische Gesellschaft (Austrian Physical Society), the American Association of Physical Anthropologists, and of the Anthropologische Gesellschaft in Wien (Anthropological Society in Vienna).
