The Department of Anthropology at the University of Vienna has a focus on educating young scientists especially in the branches of human evolution, human genetics, human ecology and human anatomy and histology.

Berufsbild Anthropologie

Our goal is to teach basic and advanced knowledge of the fields of hominid evolution and historical anthropology, focusing on the evolution of fossil primates (from genus Australopithecus up to the modern man), human ethology, theoretical biology, paleontology, classical and molecular genetics, human genetics, gene expression and formal genetics, clinical genetics (hereditary diseases), cytology, molecular biology, biochemistry, anatomy, histology and pathology of selected historical populations. Besides these theoretical basics, we also try to impart practical applications and methods. In the course of the master thesis there should be a specialisation in one of the mentioned areas.
